Imperfect Justice by Cara PutmanTo the world it seems obvious: Kaylene Adams killed her daughter and then was shot by police. Attorney Emilie Wesley knows a different story: Kaylene would never hurt anyone and was looking for a way out of a controlling, abusive relationship. Her death shakes Emilie’s belief that she can make a difference for women in violent marriages. Self-doubt plagues her as she struggles to continue her work in the wake of the tragedy.

Reid Billings thought he knew his sister—right up until he learned how she died. He discovers a letter from Kaylene begging him to fight for custody of her daughters if anything should happen to her. No attorney in her right mind would support an uncle instead of the father in a custody case, but Kaylene’s letter claims Emilie Wesley will help him.

Thrown together in a race to save Kaylene’s surviving daughter, Emily and Reid pursue the constantly evasive truth. If they can hang on to hope together, can they save a young girl—and find a future for themselves in the process?

My Thoughts

Cara Putman delivers engaging legal suspense with a sweet romantic flair! I was transfixed by each page of Imperfect Justice from start to finish!

In addition to her legal endeavors on behalf of abused women, Emilie Wesley has a looming article deadline and a bad case of writer’s block exacerbated by the looming menace of a tenacious stalker. The weight of her responsibility and anxiety is so tangible that I can still feel its presence in my reader-heart. While Emilie could easily choose to live a life of ease thanks to her trust fund, she passionately works with purpose and intensity and I completely admire her for it!

Reid Billings is an all-around good guy despite the nearly all-consuming focus required to build his successful career in a highly competitive field. A healthy teamwork mentality and proactive friends keep him grounded yet he is blindsided by the shocking circumstances of his sister’s tragic death. As Reid seeks assistance from his sister’s lawyer in order to ensure his niece’s safety and uncover the truth behind the tragedy, his protective nature is an endearing beam of sunshine.

This story exudes authenticity with a well-balanced combination of heavy elements (crime, grief, danger) and encouragement (faith, love, hope). I highly recommend this series and eagerly anticipate future installments!!!

I requested the opportunity to read this book through the publisher. The opinions expressed are my own.

While Reid is laser-focused on his career,
Emilie is equally passionate about two separate endeavors.
Which do YOU most relate to, reader friends?
