Faithfully Bookish

Y’all have probably noticed my affinity for rugged, masculine heroes. Mountain men and ranchers are excellent examples of manliness and they happen to be the specialty of today’s featured author! I’ve been enjoying her stories for over two years now so it is my pleasure to introduce y’all and recommend her books!

About the Author

Misty M. BellerMisty M. Beller writes romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and daughters now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

Five Favorite Influential Authors

Misty: Deeanne Gist Especially her earlier books with Bethany House! I think I’ve listened to the audiobooks of A Bride in the Bargain and The Measure of a Lady at LEAST a thousand times each. Maybe more…

Beth: Those books are among my favorites, too!

Misty: Karen Witemeyer Short-straw Bride anyone? (dreamy sigh) I loved the idea behind that story, and the characters were so REAL! The remote setting of the Archer’s cabin was one of the things that inspired my first release, The Lady and the Mountain Man.

Beth: Oh, YES and No Other Will Do!!! *double dreamy sigh* “My angel” 😍 I swoon!

Misty: Laura Frantz She’s actually somewhat new to my Favorite-Author List, but I was only a few chapters into The Frontiersman’s Daughter when I realized I’d found a new author hero!

I write frontier mountain stories just like she does (even though our characters live in different mountain ranges), and I feel such a kinship with her remote settings and the inherent challenges. I love it!

Beth: I love Laura! ❤ Love, love, love, love her!!!

Misty: Kristen Heitzmann I’ll never forget reading The Diamond of the Rockies series when I was on bedrest with my first daughter. I had checked out the first book from our library and stayed up half the night to finish it.

I begged my mom to pick-up the second book from the library the next morning. I was like an addict, the story was so good! Kristen brought the Colorado Rockies to life, and the characters were incredible!

When I finished book 2, I realized the library didn’t have book 3. NOOOOO!!! After calling all the area libraries and even looking into interlibrary loan (which might have taken weeks), I called my husband, almost in tears. (In my defense, I was weepy anyway from the pregnancy).

The loving man that he was, found a bookstore that stocked the series and picked up a copy of book 3 for me that very day. That act of love is probably why we’re still married, ten years later. 😊

Beth: He’s a keeper, no doubt! This series has a special place in my reader heart!

Misty: Janette Oke Although I haven’t read her books in a long time, she was one of the first Christian historical romance authors I read (probably the same for most every other reader!). I still remember giggling with my friends about her stories as a teenager.

Beth: My favorite from Janette Oke is her Canadian West series! (*whispers* and I’m NOT a fan of Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart series because it doesn’t do the story justice! Books are BEST!)

Misty: This story grabbed me much more deeply than I expected to!

As I began the story, I knew that Tori had experienced some truly awful things in her past – at the hands of her uncle’s steward – and she would have to overcome some of the lingering emotions. But I didn’t realize the depth of the scars that the past recurring abuse held left on her – both emotionally and mentally.

I love the way Ezra tries to “fix” her in the story, but only God can heal the kind of wounds that Tori was dealing with. He has the best for us, but sometimes we have to experience the lows to realize how wonderful the best is!

A Sweetwater River Romance by Misty M. BellerTaking flight from their quiet Pennsylvania town seems like the only way for Tori Boyd to protect her dearest cousin’s virtue. And the success of their escape may now depend on the man she’s been writing letters to for over a year now in the vast wilds of the Wyoming Territory.

Ezra Reid has finally stepped out from under the shadow of his older brother and sister, now having full responsibility to man the Rocky Ridge Stage Stop through the winter. The success or failure of the stage and telegraph contracts falls squarely on his shoulders, and he’s entirely focused on the work – at least until his mysterious correspondence partner shows up on his doorstep.

As Ezra takes on the search for a proper situation for Tori and her cousin, there seem to be no good options for the ladies. Especially since Tori won’t even discuss the one option that might succeed – marriage. When the danger chasing the women takes on a form none of them anticipated, how far will Ezra have to go to keep the Tori and her cousin safe? It’ll take a lot more than luck to ensure his heart is the sole casualty.

Beth: I have a soft spot for the youngest of the family heroes. Can’t wait to read more of this series!

What are you working on now?

Misty: I’m writing a Christmas novel! The fourth book in the Wyoming Mountain Tales will star Opal, Tori’s cousin, and will be titled A Mountain Christmas Romance. I’m in the brainstorming process and getting really excited!

Beth: Christmas in July! I hear writing Christmas stories is a very popular summertime thing to do!

Misty, I’m so happy to meet you through Beth Erin! And discover a mutual love of frontier everything 🙂 Your covers are lovely and the premises interesting. Thank you for taking time for Lael and TFD. That debut novel had quite a few twists and turns:) I am smiling over your reaction to Kristen’s Colorado series. I did the same thing only didn’t have the pregnancy excuse lol. Bless your real life hero for going the extra mile for you. Now Kristen’s historicals are on my keeper shelf and are ones I could easily reread. I’ll have to look you up on Facebook if you have an author page or over on Pinterest or IG. Bless you both for a wonderful post!

I loved Misty’s Mountain dream series. I need to get started on Wyoming Mountain Tales.
I do like a rugged hero but I like other kinds of hero’s too. I’m not too picky as long as the hero has a bit of a swoon factor and the heroine is not a simpering, helpless female.

You’re right, Andrea! I’m just listening to Roseanna White’s A Name Unknown for the second time because it’s SOOOO good. The hero, Peter, isn’t the rugged type, but he’s such a good man you can’t help but love him!
